Three prisoners have been charged with murder over the stabbing of an inmate at Wormwood Scrubs prison.
Khader Saleh, 25, died at the category B jail in west London on Wednesday after he was found in another prisoner’s cell with multiple stab wounds.
The Metropolitan Police said Ahmed Khyre, 21, Kalif Dibbassey, 21, and Enton Marku, 20, who are all inmates at the prison, have been charged with the murder.
The three men will appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday.
A 23-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released under investigation. Scotland Yard said officers were called on Wednesday afternoon to reports of a male with stab injuries at the jail.
Saleh, a father of one, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.
Saleh’s death came after a report by the prison’s Independent Monitoring Board described it as “a dangerous environment for staff and prisoners alike, with multiple violent incidents on most days”.
The report, published last November, said that, despite “serious efforts”, the prison remained a “dangerous place”, with 40-50 violent incidents in a typical month.
At the time the report was written, the prison was “consistently” short of staff, it added.
